Cast rings are some of my favorite pieces to make, and every time I cast a round of them I'm always impressed by the variety of textures and forms I can get from casting the same ring.
These rings were made using a method called Delft Sand casting. I first fabricated a ring to use as the mold, then cast each ring individually with a record-keeper sapphire carefully placed in the empty space in the mold, and pouring molten sterling silver into it. Only certain stones can take the heat of the cast-in-place technique, so when I bought these sapphires I knew exactly what i wanted to do with them.
Only a few of these actually “worked” the way I planned them to, while others didn't cast completely around the sapphire, causing it to fall out and leave its stamp in the silver. The flush-set Amethyst adds a pop of color and beauty to this ring.
This size 7 has a rustic and organic feel to it and is sturdy and perfect for an everyday ring.
